Ladies and Gentlemen, We Are Floating in Space

Our Space Station Blues tee was featured in today's official Etsy Finds Astronaut-themed newsletter:

"As wikipedia tells it, in April, 1959, NASA announced it's astronauts for Project Mercury, the first human spaceflight program in the US with the goal of putting a man in orbit around the Earth.

Today's Etsy Finds pay homage to those first space travelers and to dreaming of worlds beyond the everyday, even if they're only in your imagination. Let's blast off, shall we?"

Anyone who knows me well enough knows I'm space obsessed, so having our tee included for this is pretty mad sweet! Here's a link to the accompanying Storque article as well!

For more about Project Mercury, hit up Wikipedia's super informative entry.

Dual Blogging Action!

Today was a kinetic day all around. Both Cody and I were slammed with evil wage-slave day job stuff, so it was a nice surprise to get messages this evening letting us know our designs have been featured on two different blogs.

Our Cameo Mecanique hoodie was included as one of Monkey Bun's Etsy Picks, in Krystal's splendid post on the beauty of brown.

We were also featured on This Humble Abode, as one of Jenny's Etsy Finds, in her article spotlighting local San Francisco artists. Check out her adorable twins in the post above us, crazy amounts of cute!

Binary Winter Melts Into Spring

big eyed surveillance
sweet flowers will distract you
i take your honey

Spring brings out the poet in us! Unfortunately, our inner poet turns out to be a pretty lazy guy. Which is why we love haikus! They're perfect for that afternoon caffeine-induced burst of ADD eloquence.

Celebrate the launch of our new spring line with us with a little haiku fun:

1. Pick an item in your Etsy shop
2. Write a haiku about it
3. Drop the haiku in our comment box along with the link to the item

If you don't have an item to wax haiku about but are just feeling the muse, go ahead and express yourself! We'll feature our favorites on our blog next Monday!

Treasuries are Shiny

February was quite shiny for us in terms of treasuries! Our Logic Trap shirt was featured on two front page Steampunk treasuries, first in Old World Romance's marvelous Steampunk Design Treasury at the beginning of the month:

And then in in Winklepot's temporally charming Cog...nisance Treasury on 02.21.08:

We also had a nice little surprise two days later on 02.23.08 when our Tender Time Bomb scarf was chosen by local Etsyian AnnetteMusick for her sweet San Francisco Has Style Treasury:

So much thoughtfulness and ingenuity go into making these inventive treasuries! Thanks so much to all these kind folks for including us!

We are in a book-binding, screen-printing mad-rush this week in preparation for WonderCon 2008. For those of you in the San Francisco Bay Area, we will be exhibiting in the Small Press area [SP25 on the map] from Friday February 22 - Sunday February 24.

In addition to hardcover copies of our book, "
The Irrelevant Redemption", we've also got some new sketchbooks, prints, and of course, some sweet new tees. If you're planning on attending, stop by booth and say hello!

Why Robot Stories are Good for the Soul

So having been on a steady diet of science fiction and fantasy since my very first episode of Voltron at the age of 5, I've often found myself explaining to others why I typically find non-speculative literature unchallenging. I have a pretty well-rehearsed diatribe about how I prefer books that give me a new world or concept to play with, rather than offer me a rehash of the limited gamut of "real" human experiences. But now when I'm feeling lazy, I can just point folks to this fantastic article by Wired magazine writer Clive Thompson, in which he poses that science fiction is "the last great literature of ideas". -S.

Steampunk Invasion on Etsy

We had the awesome fortune to be featured in two frontpage steampunk-themed Etsy treasuries in January!

Our Mechanical Dove Scarf was included in glueandglitter's splendid Steampunk Treasury on 1.08.08:

And a week later, our Logic Trap shirt was selected by MyFairyBabies for her smashing Sprocket Head Treasury on 1.16.08:

We're delighted that the Steampunk aesthetic is gaining exposure, and it's fantastic to see all the brilliant work being created by artists in the genre! Thanks Etsyians, for helping make our cold January a bit brighter!

Shot Through the Heart

Howdy! We wanted to kick off our blog by sharing the news of our recent engagement. On my birthday (New Year's Eve, and yes, worst day to have as a birthday EVER, easily beating out Christmas and Leap Day), as we walked along Sonoma's beautiful Russian River, Cody stopped and pulled out a package wrapped in red tissue paper. I unwrapped it to find a stunning brass steampunk-esque music box that he built by hand, wrought with gears and bearing the sigil of Artemis the Huntress and her faithful hound.

As I was already dying from the loveliness, imagine my total shock when Cody wound it up, sank to one knee, and opened it. Inside was a delicate antique cameo ring (from 1860, I later learned). The song that played and the words that were spoken are precious and ours alone, but we are more than happy to share a few visuals :).

Now, if we can only figure out a graceful way to stage the Fire Wedding from Krull ;)...
